"A Hitchhiker's Guide to 'R for Data Science (2e)'" RPIrates Monthly Meeting (Weds, 15 Oct, 6p, AE217)
RPI R users are invited to the October 2025 meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group! Our topic for Weds, 15 Sep (6p, AE217) will be "A Hitchhiker's Guide to 'R for Data Science (2e)'" led by Dr. John S. Erickson, Director of Research Operations of the Future of Computing Institute (FOCI) at Rensselaer and Chief Instigator of RPIrates.
Hadley Wickham, et.al.'s 'R for Data Science (2e)' https://r4ds.hadley.nz/ is perhaps the ultimate book on R. Now streamlined and updated through massive contributions from the global R community, the very accessible R4DS book and website teaches you how to do data science with R: how to get your data into R, get it into the most useful structure, transform it and visualize. In the October meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group, John Erickson will be our guide on an energetic tour of the amazing R language by way of the R4DS website. Whether you are new to R or consider yourself a veteran, you'll gain a new appreciation of the platform through the lens of R4DS!
RPIrates is a growing community of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer who gather monthly to support each others' use of the R open source analytics platform. During the Fall and Spring semesters we have monthly in-person RPIrates meetings, usually the first Weds evening of the month. RPIrates also has an email list through which we share information and ask questions: rpi-r-users@cs.lists.rpi.edu
During the Fall 2025 term we will be holding monthly RPIrates meetings at 6p in AE217, featuring great topics, plus pizza, salad and other goodies (arriving at 5:30p).
