RPI R users are invited to the January 2026 meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group! Our topic for Weds, 21 Jan (6p, AE217) will be "Getting Started with R and RStudio!" led by Dr. John S. Erickson, Director of Research Operations for the Future of Computing Institute (FOCI) at Rensselaer and Chief Instigator of RPIrates.
This special RPIrates session is designed for students and staff who are new to R. We'll review the R Studio user interface, the syntax of R, and R's basic data structures; we'll explain the steps to loading R packages, and how to troubleshoot when problems occur; we'll provide helpful tips and shortcuts for debugging your code; and we'll point to helpful tutorials and other resources that will lead to R success!
RPIrates is a growing community of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer who gather monthly to support each others' use of the R open source analytics platform. During the Fall and Spring semesters we have monthly in-person RPIrates meetings, usually the first Weds evening of the month. RPIrates also has an email list through which we share information and ask questions: rpi-r-users@cs.lists.rpi.edu
During the Spring 2026 term we will be holding monthly RPIrates meetings at 6p in AE217, featuring great topics, plus pizza, salad and other goodies (arriving at 5:30p).
