"R for Python (and other...) Muggles!" RPIrates Monthly Meeting (Weds, 10 Sep, 6p, AE217)

RPI R users are invited to the September 2025 meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group! Our topic for Weds, 10 Sep (6p, AE217) will be "R for Python Muggles!" led by Dr. John S. Erickson, Director of Research Operations of the Future of Computing Institute (FOCI) at Rensselaer and Chief Instigator of RPIrates.

Many new users come to R having experience in other languages; this is especially true of Python, which for many users was their introduction to coding. RPIrates kicks off the Fall 2025 term with a review of R fundamentals useful for experienced R users but especially new users who might already have done data science in languages such as Python. In Wednesday's session we'll focus on R data structures, subsetting, control structures, functions and vectorization.

RPIrates is a growing community of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer who gather monthly to support each others' use of the R open source analytics platform. During the Fall and Spring semesters we have monthly in-person RPIrates meetings, usually the first Weds evening of the month. RPIrates also has an email list through which we share information and ask questions: rpi-r-users@cs.lists.rpi.edu

During the Fall 2025 term we will be holding monthly RPIrates meetings at 6p in AE217, featuring great topics, plus pizza, salad and other goodies (arriving at 5:30p).
