Lee Ligon, associate professor of biological sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Science at Rensselaer.
Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson is profiled in the MIT Technology Review article “The Remarkable Career of Shirley Ann Jackson,” published Dec. 19, 2017.
“Shirley Ann Jackson worked to help bring about more diversity at MIT, where she was the first African-American woman to earn a doctorate,” wrote author Amanda Schaffer. “She then applied her mix of vision and pragmatism in the lab, in Washington, and at the helm of a major research university.”

To bolster the connections between benchside and bedside, the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Aging has awarded Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute a five-year $1.5 million training grant to support a new Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical and Translational Research Training Program.
This weekend, 1,682 new students will make their way to Rensselaer to start the next stage of their academic careers.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will host the ninth International Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Web Science conference from June 26 to June 28, with tutorials and workshops hosted on June 25, with support from the Rensselaer Institute for Data Exploration and Applications (IDEA) and the Rensselaer Tetherless World Constellation.
