RPI R users are invited to the November 2025 meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group! Our topic for Weds, 12 Nov (6p, AE217) will be "LLMs and the R Platform: How Posit is Making it Easy!" led by Dr. John S. Erickson, Director of Research Operations of the Future of Computing Institute (FOCI) at Rensselaer and Chief Instigator of RPIrates.
Posit, the company behind the popular RStudio integrated development environment for R, has committed itself to supporting data analytics that tightly integrates with popular large language models in a variety of ways. Posit's commitment includes the release of Hadley Wickham's ellmer package for interfacing with LLMs from multiple vendors. In the November meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group, John Erickson will provide an overview of the wide range of support provided by Posit and others for incorporating LLMs in your R projects.
RPIrates is a growing community of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer who gather monthly to support each others' use of the R open source analytics platform. During the Fall and Spring semesters we have monthly in-person RPIrates meetings, usually the first Weds evening of the month. RPIrates also has an email list through which we share information and ask questions: rpi-r-users@cs.lists.rpi.edu
During the Fall 2025 term we will be holding monthly RPIrates meetings at 6p in AE217, featuring great topics, plus pizza, salad and other goodies (arriving at 5:30p).
