RPI R users are invited to the October 2024 meeting of RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group! Our topic on Weds, 02 Oct (6p, AE217) will be "Revisiting ChatBS, the R-powered LLM Exploratory Sandbox," led by Dr. John Erickson, Director of Research Operations of the Future of Computing Institute (FOCI) at Rensselaer and Chief Instigator of RPIrates.
First deployed in mid-2023, ChatBS is an accessible, extensible, R Shiny-based platform for interactive experimentation with LLMs including GPT 4 variants and Llama3. ChatBS makes it easy for users to conduct sophisticated prompt experiments that might be difficult or impossible through the normal ChatGPT-like user interfaces, and would normally be done by directly accessing an API programmatically. ChatBS enables users to quickly incorporate popular prompting techniques, including making multiple submissions, comparing results from different models, and employing a “step-by-step” approach to emulating reasoning. ChatBS includes a web search using LLM- generated content and entity resolution against open knowledge graphs.
In this informal session John will provide an overview of ChatBS and demonstrate its capabilities, focusing in particular on aspects of interest to R coders including the architecture, development and deployment of R Shiny apps.
RPIrates is a growing community of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer who gather monthly to support each others' use of the R open source analytics platform. During the Fall and Spring semesters we have monthly in-person RPIrates meetings, usually the first Weds evening of the month. During the Fall 2024 term we will be holding monthly RPIrates meetings at 6p in AE217, featuring great topics, plus pizza, salad and other goodies (arriving at 5:30p).
