WHAT: RPIrates Tutorial: "What They Forgot to Teach You About R"
WHEN: Weds, 28 Feb 2024
WHO: John S. Erickson, Dir. of Research Operations, The Future of Computing Institute at Rensselaer (FOCI)

On Wednesday, 28 Feb 2024 at our RPIrates: The RPI R Users Group John Erickson led a discussion of "What They Forgot to Teach You About R." This session, based on an early draft of the book by the same name written by Jenny Bryan of Posit (the RStudio company), covered topics that are essential for those looking for long-term success with R in their research and careers.

The "Big Picture" topics covered during this talk included:
  • A holistic workflow: provides guidance on project-oriented workflows that address common sources of friction in data analysis.
  • Personal R administration: empowers R users to confidently manage their R programming environment.
  • All is Fail: showcases functions, options, and RStudio capabilities for debugging code, facilitating more efficient resolution of errant code.

During this session covered many topics that perplex even experienced R users, from project management and source code control, to secrets of debugging, to the mysterious question of what exactly R does at startup!

Arrgggh!!!
